When she was a freshman, in 2005 she led her team Portland Pilots to an undefeated season that culminated with an NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship award. Rapinoe's success continued as an athlete in her second year, and she became the top scorer in the nation with 10 goals. But, the season ended prematurely due to an injury on her ACL. Her season was cut short after just two games due to the same ACL injury. Her recovery enabled her to assist the Pilots to win 20 games in 2008.
The initial six to five years of her life were spent living in Boring which is a town located in Oregon where she lived in a family. The mother of the family suffered from an allergy to bees. Their bee farm for long since her parents divorced and they lived in Montana as well as Seattle for a short amount of time, as her mother frequently changed jobs.
